Centova Cast Updated.. Web Proxy Is Free Here! Always Will Be

Hello ReliaStream Members.. The holiday season is right on top of us and we would first like to wish you a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year. If you are a ReliaStream member running on SHOUTcast v1 then you have had a busy week. It seems web browser companies have stopped supporting features that SHOUTcast v1 uses (HTTP/0.9). This has had a huge impact on many radio web players. Centova Cast released a software update with a patch or fix in order to help those members on SHOUTcast v1. This patch basically runs SHOUTcast v1 links through a web proxy and the results have been good. Not all radio players are working and members have reported some listeners can listen now and some can not. This issue is new so there may be more patches or fixes. We are not sure.
The best fix for this is to switch to SHOUTcast v2 software. This is basically starting over. Many have asked if they can keep the same ip address and port number. We can certainly keep you on the same server ip address. The port number will almost always be no. Reason for this is SHOUTcast v1 only uses 2 ports. SHOUTcast v2 requires more ports and in many cases those ports are being used by other stations. We suggest keeping your old account active for 20-30 days while building your new server. Then once you have your new server up and running cancel the old one.Â
If you are looking to switch to IceCast KH we may be able to use the same ip address and port since IceCast does not require as many ports as SHOUTcast v2. So if you must keep your ip and port IceCast KH may be the solution. Again this is a maybe. We are still testing things here at ReliaStream.
Another suggestion one of our long time members asked about was a relay from SHOUTcast v1 to a SHOUTcast v2 server just for his web players. Sure that can be done. As long as the kbps rate is the same as the source a relay would work. You would still get a new port number but if you have auto dj set up on the SHOUTcast v1 server this could be a quick and easy fix. You would basically run a relay to a SHOUTcast v2 server.Â
BEWARE of companies trying to cash in on this issue. We are getting reports that some companies are now trying to get you to sign up for port 80 web proxy servers. ReliaStream gives that to you at NO EXTRA CHARGE! All ReliaStream members using Centova Cast have a port 80 web proxy link and we just updated every server to the latest patched version of Centova Cast.
